Our mission is to empower learners with SEMH and SLCN needs to reach their full potential by providing a personalised education in a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment where everyone is valued and respected. We do this by: 

• Creating a personalised learning offer for each learner: We take the time to understand each learner's individual needs and aspirations, and then we develop a personalised learning offer that will help and guide them towards achieving their short and long term goals. 

• Providing a safe and supportive learning environment: We create a learning environment where learners feel safe and supported, and where they are encouraged to take risks and learn from their mistakes. We also provide a variety of resources and support services to help learners prepare for adulthood and succeed post 16. 

• Using a variety of teaching methods and strategies: We use a variety of teaching methods and strategies to meet the needs of all learners. This involves appropriate differentiation and adapted teaching to ensure that all learners are able to access and gain knowledge and skills from the explicit and wider curriculum. 

• Building relationships with learners and families: We believe that strong relationships between learners, families, and staff are essential to learner success. We build relationships with learners and families by communicating regularly, involving them in the school community, and supporting them in any way we can.

Context of the new school 

Hill View School is a new Free School, which will be an all-through special school for learners with SLCN/SEMH needs, aged 5-16. It will open in September 2024, located in Ash, Martock, South Somerset. The school will initially open with 60 learners. The Oak Partnership Trust will work closely with the LA to determine the profile of this first intake by ensuring the consultation process is closely managed to ensure the best use of initial resources. The cohort will increase to 80 in year 2 and 120 in year 3. 

The school will serve the South Somerset and surrounding area, with admissions through the local authority, through the EHCP process.

Our overarching principles are to improve outcomes for all learners, especially the most vulnerable. This is achieved by meeting individual learner needs in a supportive and therapeutic environment where we can reduce barriers to learning, develop resilience, create opportunities and build futures. Hill View School will provide an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum, underpinned by academic rigour and specific, evidence-based, therapeutic interventions to meet individual needs. Hill View School uses flexible pathways to provide access to a wide range of accreditation and a continuum of provision as learners needs develop following challenges they might face, and successful interventions implemented.
