Hill View School Fundamentals

At Hill View School, we are committed to providing a high-quality, consistent, and nurturing learning environment where every child can thrive. These fundamentals guide our practice and ensure that we are working together to achieve the best outcomes for all our learners.

  1. Clarity and Communication:
  • At Hill View School, we ensure learners know what they are doing through clear communication and explicit signposting of learning objectives, transitions, and key concepts.
  • We use visual supports, including "Now and Next" boards and visual timetables, to provide structure, routine, and support transitions.
  • We are committed to regular and informative communication with Parent Carers, recognising them as valuable partners in their child's education and progress.
  1. Structure and Boundaries:
  • At Hill View School, we maintain clear boundaries, expectations, and consistent limit setting to create a predictable and safe learning environment.
  • We reinforce our school values: We Stay Safe, We Are Respectful, We Learn More.
  1. Therapeutic Approach:
  • At Hill View School, we use a common therapeutic language to support learners during moments of crisis or distress.
  • We are Trauma Informed and celebrate a relational approach, fostering positive relationships and emotional regulation.
  • We utilise the Bounce Approach to promote resilience and wellbeing.
  1. Adaptive Teaching:
  • At Hill View School, we know our learners and use adaptive teaching strategies that recognise the different needs of each learner.
  • We consider creative solutions to meet individual needs and ensure that interventions are timetabled and delivered as a priority.
  • Lesson planning is shared with the class team, with appropriate alternative activities to support dynamic, in-the-moment learning.
  1. Learning Environment:
  • At Hill View School, learners are supported to remain in their learning environment and reduce transient behaviour.
  • We have clearly structured routines around key transition points within the day, such as transport, break, and lunch.
  • We foster independence and prepare learners for change.
  • We create a feeling of safety through consistent adult modelling and positive interactions.
  1. Shared Responsibility:
  • At Hill View School, we look after and value resources and our shared learning environments.
  • We believe in collaboration and shared responsibility for the wellbeing and progress of all our learners.

These fundamentals are a living document, subject to ongoing review and development. We are committed to working together to ensure that the Hill View Way provides the best possible foundation for our learners to flourish.
